Privacy Policy
Last Updated: February 23, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Kevin Iverson ("we," "us," or "our"), the developer of the Step to Story app, handles your information.
Step to Story is designed with a privacy-first, on-device model. We do not operate backend servers that collect your app content.
1. Information We Process
Step to Story processes information you create and manage in the app, including:
- Profile information (for example, profile name and settings)
- Step/journal content you enter
- Photo links and metadata needed for app features
- Story Anchor fields such as relationship, birth date, and current chapter
- On-device derived analysis data used to improve suggestions (for example, quality/similarity signals and other local ranking artifacts)
2. How Your Information Is Used
Your information is used only to provide app functionality on your device, including to:
- Save and display your profiles, steps, and memories
- Personalize wording and suggestions
- Improve suggestion quality (including age-window diversity calculations when a birth date is provided)
- Support local reminder and organization features you enable
We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for third-party advertising.
3. Data Sharing and Transmission
We do not upload your app content to our servers.
We do not share your app content with third parties for advertising, profiling, or tracking.
Step to Story does not include third-party ad SDKs, tracking SDKs, or data-broker integrations.
4. On-Device Processing
Photo and suggestion-related analysis is performed on-device. Derived artifacts used for ranking and calibration are stored locally to support app behavior. These artifacts are profile-scoped and are not used for cross-profile identity linking.
5. Storage, Retention, and Deletion
Your app data is stored locally on your device.
If you enable Apple device backup features (such as iCloud Backup), your Step to Story data may be included in those backups under Apple's backup system.
When you delete content (such as profiles or related records) in the app, associated local records and related derived artifacts are removed as part of normal app data lifecycle behavior.
6. Analytics and Crash Diagnostics
We use Apple's TestFlight and App Store Connect reporting tools to receive crash and diagnostic information made available by Apple. This information is provided through Apple's systems in anonymized and/or aggregated form as available to developers and is used to improve app reliability and performance.
7. Third-Party Services
We do not use third-party advertising networks or third-party analytics/tracking SDKs inside the app.
8. Children's Privacy
Step to Story is intended for use by parents, guardians, or other caregivers to document memories. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children over the internet.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a revised "Last Updated" date.
